On Thursday we took the young people to jump giants as part of the wider Gateshead District event. The cubs had a great time. Yesterday at cubs we walked around Whickham and parts of Watergate park, in the dark. Today at cubs, the young people learnt about how and why people feel down sometimes, and what we can do to support each other. During yesterday’s session, the cubs learnt about healthy eating. This included the 5 different food groups, what happens if you eat unhealthily and the consequences of not brushing your teeth. The cubs also learnt about scurvy, tooth decay and calcium deficiency. The cubs finished with a game of dodgeball and were awarded their chef badges.

This week at cubs we made spaghetti Bolognese in the kitchen. We fried the mince, chopped the carrots, diced an onion, crushed some garlic and added in the stock. We then boiled the spaghetti. As part of the chef badge, the young people must learn the basics of food hygiene. The young people learnt about the four elements needed for food poisoning bacteria to multiply; food with protein in, moisture, the correct temperature and time.
