During Friday’s session we looked at the aims of first aid, getting help, the importance of being clear when ringing 999, what to do if you see someone unconscious, DRAHB (Danger, Response, Airways, Help and Breathing) and we touched on bleeding and wounds.
It was great to see that everyone seemed to be interested. There were some very good questions being asked too.
It was a very theoretical session – the cubs learnt about all of this by listening and reading, and then ‘practiced’ their first aid skills on each other at the end of the session.
Next session it’ll be much more practical, we’ll be learning about asthma attacks, burns, hypo- and hyper-thermia and we’ll go over bleeds and wounds again. We’ll finish off with a game of First Aid bingo.
